Team Red edges Team Black in low-scoring G-Day game

Offense was not the focal point at the annual G-Day spring game in Athens.

The final score of 22-17 is low by itself, and Team Black got one of its scores on an early pick six from Eric Stokes.

Freshman quarterback Dwan Mathis threw for 113 yards for Team Black, completing 15-28 passes. Jake Fromm had a similar game, completing 14-29 passes for 116 yards.

D’Andre Swift led Team Red in rushing with 39 yards in limited playing time, while KJ McCoy led Team Black with 29 yards. Brooks Buce, Jake Camarda, and Jack Podlensy all connected on field goal tries throughout the afternoon.

The game was played in unfavorable weather conditions, with the temperature around 50 degrees and rain coming in and out of the Athens area. Dawg Nation showed up, however, with an announced attendance of over 50,000.

Now that we have our first look at the 2019 squad, we can start counting down the days until the season really begins in August.
