Letters to the Editor

Teaching online does not mean teachers have been taking paid time off | Letters

While we can all have our opinions regarding the safety of teaching a classroom full of children in person as opposed to online, Mr. Mark Wilkins’ latest letter to the editor and his parting shot is disparaging without merit when he tells teachers to “get back to work.”

Since the beginning of the school year, teachers have been working: making lesson plans, grading homework and teaching the kids online. They are not, as Mr. Wilkins mistakenly assumes, taking a paid vacation.

In fact, the hassles of teaching online have probably increased their stress, just as teaching in person will create another avenue of stress as they fear failing ill with the virus. During these difficult times, can’t we try and be a little kinder to one another as we navigate these treacherous waters?

What do to with your stimulus check

Don’t need the $600 stimulus check to buy food or pay rent?

Give it to someone who does. Chicago has many organizations that will direct the money to the needy. Their spending will be good for them, for you and for the economy.

Roger Flaherty, Edgewater

Those really to blame for police raid

Am I wrong when I think the warrant for a police raid has been signed by a judge? Which judge signed the warrant for this raid at the wrong address? Who are the commanders who signed off on the raid? Why are the judges never mentioned? Why are the commanders never punished?

We all knock the cops but they are the field mice. Who are the rats in charge? Who sat at that desk and said, “OK, go for it!”?

That’s who I want questioned and punished as well.

Pat Salecki, Summit
