With exam season upon us we took to Twitter to ask teachers what exam tips have stuck with them from their own time as a student.
From never looking sideways to always filling space, there’s plenty of wisdom. Don’t forget to share yours with us in the comments thread or via @GuardianTeach:
1. Aim to sleep like a baby the night before (but make sure you set your alarm clock).
Get a good night's sleep. @GuardianTeach https://t.co/fnd6oaDTmh

2. Cheating is not an option.
@GuardianTeach best piece of exam advice: Look up for inspiration; down in desperation but never sideways for information!
— Teacher (@allium20) May 8, 2015
3. Always always always read the question.
@GuardianTeach RTFQ ... 'Read the f****** question'!
— Charley (@Charley2305) May 7, 2015
4. Having fun in an exam might seem counter-intuitive but it’s a great way of thinking of them.
@GuardianTeach A level English teacher: know your stuff, don't prep essays, have fun engaging with the questions. I repeat it to my students
— Ness Waters (@nesswaters) May 7, 2015
5. @sra_dickey gives us the “eat, sleep, rave, repeat” refrain for exams.
@GuardianTeach Rest, eat, don't panic. Studying is important, but you MUST do these.
— Amanda Dickey (@sra_dickey) May 7, 2015
6. Make sure you don’t just regurgitate everything in your brain.
@GuardianTeach #exams see it as opportunity to show off, but keep tightly focused on question, not just 'here's everything I know about x'
— Lucy (@honeypisquared) May 7, 2015
7. As with most things in life, you need a plan.
@GuardianTeach Don't just launch into your answer. Spend a few minutes making a plan first of what you want to include.
— Val Mansell (@ValMansell) May 7, 2015
8. Practice makes perfect.
@GuardianTeach #examseason Best advice "There's no such thing as good luck: you need to be well prepared." @BrutonSchool
— Bruton School (@BrutonSchool) May 7, 2015
9. Work out how much time you should spend on each question and use it wisely.
@GuardianTeach I'd say managing time effectively is most important thing- work out how many 'marks per minute' for each exam
— David Carpenter (@dizzleeducation) May 7, 2015
10. Breathing is always a useful activity, but it’s great to think of exams as showing off too.
@GuardianTeach a) close your eyes and breathe; b) now show off!
— MsLewis (@MsLewis13) May 7, 2015
11.Blank space gets you nowhere.
@GuardianTeach never leave an answer space blank... Don't be afraid to guess...
