Teachers’ diploma: Haryana to start intake

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has decided to issue the admission process for diploma in elementary education (D El Ed)course in the state’s private self-financing institutes from October 1.

In the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday, additional advocate general Deepak Balyan placed on record a letter from the elementary education department to the State Council of Educational Research and Training along with the admission schedule. The admission process will start from October 1. The association of NCTE-approved Colleges Trust had sought high court’s directions to the Haryana government for starting this process for the session 2021-23.

The D El Ed course, also known as the junior basic training (JBT) programme, prepares teachers for teaching the primary classes. The petitioners say that in terms of the provisions of the NCTE Act, 1993, the National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE) has framed the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, and that for admission to the D EI Ed course, they issued public notices in the adjoining Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh for intake from July and August for the session’s beginning in August and September. However, the state government had not commenced the admission process.

On July 29 and September 7, the petitioners had sent a representation to the SCERT director and the state education minister, for orders to start the D EI Ed admissions. When the state government placed on record the letter confirming the start, the high court disposed of the matter.
