An English teacher in Florida has been suspended after he reportedly gave a class of 13 to 14-year-olds uncensored Lil Wayne lyrics.
As part of a homework assignment, the staff member at the Charter School of Boynton Beach allegedly gave the teenagers the lyrics to single 6 Foot 7 Foot in order to help them understand literary devices such as the metaphor and the pun. As WPTV reported, the teacher was last week suspended for three days following the incident involving the song, which was released in 2010 and features the following lyrics:
Life is the bitch, and death is her sister
Sleep is the cousin, what a fuckin' family picture
You know father time, we all know mother nature
It's all in the family, but I am of no relation
No matter who's buying, I'm a celebration
Black and white diamonds, fuck segregation
"The lesson was for students to learn to identify literary devices. The teacher had already introduced Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare," the school's headmaster Wayne Owens said in a statement. "Students were having difficulty grasping the concepts of literary devices such as: pun, simile, metaphor, so the teacher used colloquial material. This material did not meet the school's standards and was not approved. The teacher recognises that it was totally inappropriate for a school assignment."
The rapper, who was last year diagnosed with epilepsy, released his last album I Am Not a Human Being II in March 2013.
