Teacher skills

Training at Bett

There is a range of opportunities to help teachers improve their ICT skills at this year's Bett show.

Naace, the subject association for ICT teachers, is going live with its e-learning portal, ictcpd4free.co.uk. This offers online courses for ICT teachers and others who want to improve their use of technology in class. The first tranche of courses covers high-order thinking skills using ICT and embedding e-safety in the curriculum.

Special educational needs (SEN) teachers can check out the SEN Portal at the seminar run by Professor Marilyn Leask, professor of education at Brunel University (Wednesday, 13 January). This will look at how the technology works and outline the progress the project has made so far in developing resources for SEN specialists.

The National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services is bringing Bett delegates up to speed on personalised learning available to leaders in education and children's services. Teachers will outline how they have used the college's e-learning to develop leadership skills (Thursday, 14 January).

The MirandaNet Fellowship has been working on a Becta-funded study of ICT CPD for teachers. Christina Preston from MirandaNet will outline the study's findings on how teachers can work in formal groups to share knowledge and build their skills (Saturday, 16 January).

And VT Education and Skills is showcasing CPD Online, which it has developed with WebBased. Teachers can use the web service to access CPD and build their own professional development record. Heads can use it to get a whole school view of professional development.
