Teacher sentenced to death for poisoning 25 kids with porridge leaving one dead

A nursery school teacher has been sentenced to death after she poisoned 25 children, killing one of them.

"Despicable and vicious" Wang Yung put sodium nitrate in the porridge of a colleague's class after having a row, a court heard.

A little boy died after an agonising 10 month hospital ordeal, while 23 suffered minor injuries, according to reports in China.

It happened in the eastern city of Jiaozuo, where police were alerted when children started vomiting.

The court heard she knew her actions could be deadly, but said she acted “with no regard for the consequences”.

Local authorities said that Wang had poisoned the young pupils in order to get revenge on her co-worker.

It happened on March 27 last year, when Wang had a row with a colleague identified only as Sun over "student management issues".

The dead child, who has not been identified, died in January after 10 months in hospital.

It was not the first time Wang was guilty of using poison, Global Times reports.

In 2017 she put sodium nitrate in a cup used by her husband after the couple quarreled, causing him minor injuries.

In a statement the court said her “criminal methods and circumstances were exceedingly bad, with especially severe circumstances, and she should be severely punished in accordance with the law.”

"When I arrived at the  school, my daughter had already passed out," one dad said, according to the  Daily Mail.

"Besides my kid, there are three or four other children all looking sick and very pale.

"My child said the porridge tasted bitter and salty when it was supposed to taste sweet."
