Teacher responds to police chief's apology for violent 2015 arrest

AUSTIN, Texas _ Breaion King, a 26-year-old Austin teacher thrown to the ground by a police officer during a traffic stop last year, responded Friday morning to a public apology by police Chief Art Acevedo.

"I appreciate it very much, and it's a step in the right direction," King said.

She said what happened to her "is an opportunity to make things better and to change things for the better."

King was doing multiple local, state and national interviews Friday morning after the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV first aired police dash camera video showing Officer Bryan Richter using force on her.

The incident happened in June 2015, but the video surfaced as part of new investigations by the Austin Police Department and the Travis County District Attorney's Office.
