This weekend sees the birthday of one of my favourite men... Shakespeare. At least historians think his birthday is sometime this weekend - they know he was baptised on the 26th April 1564 so it's likely he was born up to three or four days prior to that. So Happy Birthday Bard - we've got some brilliant resources covering anything from Hamlet to Henry V - just pop Shakespeare into the search engine and pay homage in class to a literary giant.
New teaching resources on the network
Combining skills in maths and art, primary school aged students using these new resources from conservation charity ARKive will have lots of fun and learn skills of estimation and measurement.
Or there are lots of resources from the charity all about nocturnal animals including this presentation plus there are even 10 sound files!
We are really enjoying some of these resources put up by the European Commission this week - which include this slide guide to the EU and also this PDF which offers a guide to the EU in 12 lessons. We've also got a brilliant guide to nanotechnology for secondary school aged pupils.
And please don't miss the resources shared by charities including ActionAid and CAFOD explaining the Kony 2012 campaign. The video calling for the capture of warloard Joseph Kony has had over 90 million views on YouTube after it went viral on Facebook. Tuesday's How to teach feature goes into more detail.

If you have some brilliant resources that you would like to share simply upload them to the GTN resource library - it takes just a couple of minutes.
Blog of the week
On Thursday we joined up with The Guardian's Comment is Free section to publish Ron Glatter's erudite blog about how the only way to improve the performance gaps in schools (and Britain's ranking globally) is by having a better social mix in schools. It provoked quite a debate - take a look here: Increasing the social mix in schools is the way to close performance gaps.
If you'd like to be a GTN blogger, make contact with blog curator Emma Drury on emma.drury@guardian.co.uk.

Seminars coming up
In May we have a bit of a treat on offer for GTN members - following on from his behaviour seminar before Easter Ofsted commended trainer Paul Dix is coming back to lead a session on how to move your school from good to outstanding.
Paul will be coming armed with loads of practical suggestions and ideas and will be able to advise on specific issues. A regular GTN blogger Paul will be offering a flavour of what's to come in his blog coming up this week on the site.
It's guaranteed to be popular so book your place for the one day seminar on May 11 here: From good to outstanding
And finally… The Guardian and Google held an amazing Junior Hack Day event this week with schools working on some amazing apps. One of the teachers involved was Genevieve Smith-Nunes from Dorothy Stringer school in East Sussex, who said, "Years worth of skills have been taught and learnt in 24 hours! Some of the students literally stayed up all night as they wanted to finish the project." Developers from The Guardian and GTN staff were blown away by the standard of work coming out - we'll have a full round-up on the blog next week... so watch this space
Have a wonderful week - and Happy St George's Day tomorrow!
