Last night, Aberdeenshire Council refused to say whether or not the teacher had been suspended while the inquiries continued. But it is understood the woman in question was not present at the school last week.

An email was recently sent out to parents and guardians of children at the small school. The message said the school was co-operating with the police to “establish the full circumstances of alleged assaults concerning a member of staff ”.

The teacher is expected to appear in court early in January.
