Teacher explains the exact time kids should go to bed on school nights

One argument that plagues parents across the nation is getting the kids to bed early enough before school the next morning.

It is common knowledge that the key for having a good day at school includes eating a nutritious breakfast, laying your clothes and bookbag out the night before - and getting a good night's sleep. So, as reported by The Mirror, when is the right time to tuck your little ones in bed for the next day?

A teacher caused quite the debate online when they shared an interesting guide on when to send the kids to bed, organised by age. The post was shared by a member of staff from Wilson Elementary School, and isn't a new idea to be had.

However, it stirred things up by being re-shared on social media, and many parents were left feeling divided over the exact timings. In the guide, it claims that a seven-year-old that needs to be up by 7am the next morning should be in bed at 8:15pm.

Whereas, a ten-year-old getting up at the earlier time of 6:30am should be in bed by 8:30pm at the latest. The chart was first shared by a Stacy Karlsen, who spoke to Fox6Now about her disbelief at the post going viral.

Stacy said: "To me, it was a shock [that the post was shared so much]. I didn't make it up. I found it coming across my personal page and I thought, 'Wow, this is super helpful'."

Some parents were in agreement that the chart was helpful in figuring out when to send their kids to bed. One mum said it "justified" her thought process on bedtimes for children.

The mum explained: "I have four kids — and I catch a lot of flack for their bedtimes. I started out setting their bedtime years ago based on how much sleep they need... Glad to see this chart justify the exact times we have already set."

However, not every parent was in solid agreement. One dad compared the strict bedtimes to being in the military. He said: "This isn't the military and if I was to send my kids to bed at 7 at night they would be up at 4 a.m. No thank you. Plus I would never get to spend time with them after school."

Another said: ""I'm sorry, but this chart is absurd. Who puts their kid to bed at 6:45?"

Others argued that rules could differ during different months of the year, and also can depend on if the children nap throughout the day at their school.
