A teacher who gorged on five takeaways a week has lost more than five stone to be crowned Slimming World’s Miss Slinky.
Amy Hodgson was so embarrassed about her size on holiday that she joined the slimming programme with her sister, ditching takeaways, crisps and sweets for vegetables, potatoes and rice.
The 24-year-old dropped 10 dress sizes as her weight plummeted from about 15 stone to about nine stone in 12 months.
Liverpudlian Amy said: “These days I’m brimming with confidence and I’ve stopped letting worries about my weight hold me back.”
She decided to take action after being handed an XXL robe on a trip to a spa during a holiday in Iceland with her boyfriend Jonathan.
She said: “It was supposed to be the trip of a lifetime but I felt like it’d been ruined because of how I felt about my weight.”
Shortly after returning, Amy’s sister asked if she wanted to join Slimming World with her. She said: “I decided to stop putting it off and just went for it.”
Amy soon felt at home in the supportive group, embraced Slimming World’s eating plan and was shocked by how much she could eat compared with her previous diets.
The diet is crammed with “free foods”, including potatoes, pasta, rice, lean meat, fish, eggs, fruit and vegetables.
Amy said: “I’d been having four to five takeaways a week before joining Slimming World, so this new way of looking at food was a revelation.”
Amy is now looking forward to pursuing her dream of becoming a headteacher.
She said: “I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
