Teacher claims she pocketed £100 from mum who was 'late picking up child from school'

A teacher claims she pocketed £100 from a mum who was 'late picking up their child from school'. Kristin Evans says she was paid the money due to the late pick up policy at her school, reports the Mirror.

She took to social media to explain the situation, stating that she was given the cash to pay back her lost time, as she needed to stay with the child until the parent showed up. The teacher added that for every minute the parent was late, they were charged $2 - about £1.60.

Therefore, Kristin ending up walking away with $116, about £97, from the parent's pocket. In a TikTok video, the teacher didn't pass comment on the policy, but did look a little shocked.

Kristin said: "The director of my school just walked up to me and handed me $116. She said it was because one of my half-day students was picked up almost an hour late and we get paid $2 a minute for every minute that they're late.

"So this parent was charged $2 a minute for being late and it goes directly into my pocket."

The teacher's controversial video was quick to spark up conversation online, with people keen to share their thoughts on the situation. Many parents were quick to sympathise with the mother regarding the fine, as they shared similar stories.

One person said: "I can remember crying because I was stuck in traffic. I couldn’t get to my child’s daycare before it closed or afford the fine and they called police."

Another added: "Imagine that mum freaking out, rushing to get there with high anxiety and then you get there and it’s like fork over the money... not a good day for that mum."

Meanwhile, other teachers who watched the video assured those concerned that fining parents for showing up late had become normal practice. One person said: "Ours is £8 the first minute and a pound a minute thereafter... even in an emergency."

Another said: "As a child that had a late parent, make them pay.

A third added: "All the people disagreeing, these teacher’s aren’t paid overtime, would you stay an hour and a half late for free at work."
