- Secondary school teacher Annika Kiran Kapur has been indefinitely banned from the profession after drinking gin in her classroom.
- Ms Kapur was suspended and subsequently sacked from Djanogly City Academy, Nottingham, in early 2025 for drinking alcohol while teaching.
- Witnesses reported Ms Kapur slurring her words, acting in an exaggerated manner, and appearing unsteady, before throwing up in a staff toilet.
- Ms Kapur admitted to making a “grievous error” but claimed she unknowingly drank from a water bottle containing gin from a “birthday weekend” and “chugged it to stop myself vomiting” when she realised.
- She is prohibited from teaching indefinitely, with the possibility to apply for her prohibition order to be set aside in April 2028.
