As a teacher, you need to have a lot of patience and understanding because not only are your pupils learning how to read and write but also how to navigate the world around them. A primary school teacher has revealed how she knows whether a pupil will be 'good or bad' in her classroom simply by scanning over the class register.
Taking to Reddit, the woman explained how she was discussing possible baby names with her husband, who also works as a teacher, when she realised she has 'positive' and 'negative' associations with many popular names. She said: "As we brainstormed possible names, the conversation turned into a discussion of kids we have taught in our past that either enhanced the name (one we might name our child) or completely destroy the name (one we go no where near)."
The teacher said she would consider naming a girl Olivia because they're usually "super smart and high achievers".
She added: "They are talkative but will get their work done. They're quick learners and charming."
But if she were to have a boy she would name him Anthony because they're "super chill, very kind and tend to work hard."
"They don't cause trouble in class and will sit down and get their work done," she explained.
Turning her attention to 'bad' names, she said: "Any old biblical name like Elijah, Jeremiah, Joshua - they go to the bathroom and return 30 minutes later.
"They rarely get any work done. They're argumentative and do not follow the rules."
She also has a problem with any girl's name ending in 'bella' - such as Isabella and Annabella.
She claims they're "low achievers, have zero interest in school and are glued to their phones/socials. I have not met one that works hard and achieves good marks."
Girls named Emily and Emma also made their way onto her 'bad' list because they tend to be "super introverted".
"They are so quiet, they almost have no self-advocacy skills and never ask questions or help. They tend to be pushed around and followers. Not academically strong. Nice quiet kids though," she added.
For boys, she picked on those named Jonathan because they're "super annoying and mouthy".
She said: "Whenever there's a Jonathan in my class, I let out a loud sigh and mentally prepare myself for an annoying kid."
Finally, her husband vetoed the name Kyle for their future son after associating it with the "most annoying kid in his class."
He said: "Mouthy. Can't sit still. Doesn't do anything in class. Asking, 'Sir are you mad at me? every 10 minutes every day."
