Teacher at school in Basford tests positive for coronavirus

A teacher at a secondary school in Old Basford has tested positive for coronavirus.

In a letter, Chris Keen, principal of Ellis Guilford, in Bar Lane, wrote that a number of classes from different year groups - taught by the member of staff - should self-isolate for two weeks.

"Regrettably, a member of the school’s teaching team has received a positive test result for COVID-19," the letter read.

"This is classified as a single case.

"The school has taken Public Health advice and, as a precaution, we believe it appropriate and reasonable, that a number of classes from different year groups, taught by the identified staff member, should now self-isolate for the next 14 days.

"The school takes the safety of its students extremely seriously and I am thankful to those parents/carers whom we contacted throughout the morning who were fully understanding of the decision made.

"Pupils who are isolating for whatever reason, should continue to learn using our remote learning platform.

"Teachers will upload their lessons so that every pupil can continue to access resources, PowerPoints and homework.

"We will also prepare paper packs of work.

"Please contact the school if you have any questions about home learning.

"Whilst we are disappointed for the member of staff and for those who are now having to self-isolate, I want to assure all parents, carers and pupils that the school continues to be open as normal. We are in extra ordinary times and I wish to thank all parents for their support."

The school announced its partial closure in March, following the outbreak of the virus.

It comes after the number of new Covid-19 cases recorded across Nottingham in a week soared to levels similar to those in locked-down areas.
