An exclusive Sydney private school has stood down a biology teacher after he was charged with having sex with a former student.
Ben Fenner will no longer be teaching at Reddam House at Bondi in Sydney's east pending the court findings of a complaint made to the police by a graduate of the school.
The 34-year-old biology teacher has been charged with 11 counts of sexual intercourse with a person under their care.
The alleged offences happened last year when the student was aged between 17 and 18.
It is understood the former student went to police recently and the school was notified about the charges last week.
"This matter is regarded by the school as extremely serious," the school's principal Dave Pitcairn said in the letter to parents.
"Duty of care towards and respect for students is fundamental at Reddam and the school does not tolerate any form of inappropriate or illegal behaviour."
"Parents are advised that pending resolution of due legal process, Mr Fenner will not play any further role at the school.
"This is now a matter for the courts to determine and we cannot make further comment.
"We are determined to support the former student and minimise as much as we can the impact on them and on the wider school community.
"Our focus must be on minimising disruption to learning and HSC examination preparation and we are making appropriately urgent arrangements for replacement staff."
Mr Fenner remains on strict conditional bail and is due to face court in August.
