Teacher asks mum to tone down daughter's elaborate packed lunch because it upsets other children

A teacher has asked a mum if she can tone down her daughter's elaborate packed lunches which appear to be upsetting other children.

The mum said she was told her creative lunches, which are inspired by Instagram pages for her eight-year-old child, are making others "feel bad."

The woman's husband explained that she likes to make fun lunches "because it is important to us" that their daughter is happy and enjoys mealtimes, the Mirror reports.

But when they received a message from their daughter's teacher asking them to tone down her exotic lunches, they were not happy.

He said: "My daughter's teacher called and left a message asking us that we simplify her lunches and do the typical sandwich thing because other kids 'don’t have as elaborate as lunches and it might make them feel bad.'"

So, he decided to send them a very strongly-worded email.

He told them: "No we won’t and that I really don’t care, and that if other kids get upset then maybe, maybe it would be a good teaching moment for her."

Now he has taken to Reddit to ask users if he took it a bit too far, and the majority of people defended him and agreed it was a good lesson for the school.

One said: "Does your boss request that you drive a 2007 Corolla because your coworkers can’t stand to see a Tesla?"

Another added: "I love those cute little lunches and do bento boxes for my adult lunches. The teacher sounds like a snowflake. What's next? Asking your kid to get a wrong answer on a quiz because she is 'too smart'?"

A third admitted: "I'm the broke kid that had to sit next to the rich kids whose parents could afford to pack them nice lunches. It sucked, yeah, but I learned that everyone comes from different financial situations and that nicely packed lunches were something to be grateful for. I aspired to one day be able to do for my kids what my parent's couldn't for me."

And: "I could see the teacher being upset if it’s just completely unhealthy like the lunch box was filled with candy or a few bags of chips and nothing else. But the fact that it’s just decent food to be fun, I don’t think this should be any sort of issue" said a fourth.

But one person did say that the dad could have worded his response a little better.
