Teacher almost killed by deadly anaphylactic shock as pupils play "allergy prank"

A teacher with a severe allergy to bananas almost died after being attacked with the fruit by her own pupils.

The art teacher's allergy was so serious her classroom door had a sign stating: 'Banana Free Zone'.

It had a clear message underneath reading: "Mrs Woods is allergic to BANANAS!

"If you had one today, you must wash your hands before going into the art room. Thank you!”

But a group of three 12 and 13-year-old chose to ignore the signs and were seemingly unaware of how deadly a food allergy can be.

The trio - two boys and a girl - smeared the banana on the door handle, knowing she would have to touch it to enter the room.

They also threw bananas at the once she was in the room, with them, ABC News in the US reports.

She went into anaphylactic shock in front of them and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

The incident happened in November and only came to light due to an investigation by ABC6's Scoring Our Schools program.

In bodycam footage recorded by police at the scene, a Columbus City Schools security officer tells officers what happened.

He said: "That could be attempted murder.

“All of the kids know she’s deathly allergic to bananas.

“If it touches her, she will go into anaphylactic shock.”

He added: "She starts to change colours.

“They gave her one EpiPen. It wasn’t working. They gave her another EpiPen (and) her throat was starting to close up.

“They’re definitely going down for expulsion.”

The trio were all excluded from school and were sentenced to probation through the juvenile court in Ohio, USA.

The teacher has recovered from her shocking ordeal. It is not clear if she has returned to teaching.
