Tea designed for Scottish tap water becomes a bestseller… abroad

Specialist tea company Eteaket created a tea blend specially suited to Scotland’s soft tap water - and it has become a best-seller overseas.

The Edinburgh business said the “Keep the Heid” brew is its most in-demand product online with orders from around the world.

Founder and MD Erica Moore said: “Keep the Heid is already our bestselling blend online, which is amazing for a new product.

“We’ve had orders from across the UK and from Europe, US and Australia - and feedback from people who have tried the tea has been really positive.

“It seems there’s a real recognition of the quality of Scotland’s water around the world – and while people abroad may not be able to enjoy it with Scotland’s water, they love the nuances of the blend and its Scottish connections.

Keep the Heid is a loose leaf mix of Assam and Darjeeling with heather and Scottish meadowsweet which don’t overpower the black tea.

Moore said: “At Eteaket we’ve always recognised the benefits of tea – and the routine of making tea – to also help with our mental health.

“We’re really excited at what we have created and love the idea that tea can play a big part in bringing us together and making us feel better – particularly as the coronavirus lockdown restrictions start to lift.”

The blend was created as Eteaket's contribution to Scottish Water’s Your Water Your Life campaign.

Brian Lironi, director of corporate affairs at Scottish Water, said: “Our public water supplies not only support a flourishing Scotland but is also the vital and often overlooked ingredient in a cup of tea.

“Your Water Your Life aims to encourage people to think about the water they use, how they use it, and how much it supports the daily lives of millions of people.

“We’re delighted eteaket has joined the wave of appreciation for our tap water. We hope people can enjoy a cup of tea with their friends, family and colleagues as we ease out of lockdown.”
