TE Kellen Winslow Sr. named 79th best player in NFL history

Former Chargers tight end Kellen Winslow will go down as the player that innovated the position.

Chargers Wire recently ranked Winslow as the seventh-best player to suit up in a Chargers uniform.

In the eyes of USA Today, Winslow is one of the best 100 players to ever play the game in the past 100 years. He was ranked the 79th best player in NFL history on USA Today’s list of the top 100.

Winslow, the five-time Pro Bowl selection, played for the Bolts from 1979 to 1987.

Winslow finished his nine-year career with 541 receptions, 6,741 yards and 45 touchdowns. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995.

The former Missouri product will go down as one of the most memorable performances against the Dolphins, when he caught a playoff-record 13 passes for 166 yards and blocked a potential winning field-goal with four seconds left to send the game to overtime, which ultimately resulted in a 41-38 Chargers victory.

He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995.
