TE Geoff Swaim deal listed as a 2-year deal that guarantees $1.25M, per Spotrac

Just as they did last year with Austin Seferian-Jenkins, the Jacksonville Jaguars managed to land tight end Geoff Swaim on a cap friendly two-year deal this past weekend. Per Spotrac, the deal is one that offers a max value of $5.5 million and guarantees $1.25 million. They also have the option to get out of the deal in 2020 if things don’t pan out, and it would only cost them $250k in dead cap to do so.

The Jags were expected to bring in a veteran during free agency being that they didn’t pick up Seferian-Jenkins’ 2019 option and also let James O’Shaughnessy hit the open market. That only left them with two players with limited play time in Ben Koyack and Pharoah McKever, so it was clear something needed to be done.

With Swaim having more starts (18) than both aforementioned tight ends combined, it appears we can temporarily pencil him in as the starter although it’s highly likely the Jags will draft a tight end, too. Swain could very well hang on to that title heading into the regular season if he continues where he left off in 2018 after proving to be a solid in-line blocker and racking up a career-high of 26 catches for 242 receiving yards and a touchdown. Unfortunately, he was eventually put on injured reserve with a wrist injury and couldn’t add more to those figures, but is now 100 percent and ready to roll.
