TE coach John Lilly praises Browns DEs for making his players better

Shortly after Monday’s practice session, Browns tight ends coach John Lilly stepped into the covered fieldhouse at the edge of the training facility to get out of the hot sun and answer some questions. One of the best questions focused on how the coach felt about his tight ends going up in practice every day against the likes of Myles Garrett and Olivier Vernon at defensive end.

“The best thing we’ve got going for us right now is who we go against every day in practice,” Lilly said. “It’s not just those first two (Garrett and Vernon), it’s the next group and next group. It’s a very very deep group of defensive ends…it’s not going to get any harder on Sundays than it is during the week.”

Lilly mentioned the challenge for his players and how the battles in practices will help him trust guys like David Njoku, Demetrius Harris and Pharoah Brown in game situations.
