TD praises Dublin Fire Brigade's quick response after laughing 'brainiacs' set fire to wooded area

Dublin-Rathdown TD Neale Richmond has praised Dublin Fire Brigade for their quick response after "a couple of brainiacs" set fire to wooded area in South Dublin.

The Fine Gael politician was walking through the Wedgewood area of Sandyford on Monday when he spotted a fire lit on dry grass in a wooded area.

A petrol can was close by and a couple of "brainiacs laughing their heads off" were running away.

Deputy Richmond said that he rang Dublin Fire Brigade and they were on the scene and had the fire extinguished within 10 mins.

Posting about the incident on Twitter, the TD said: "Stumbled across this walking through Wedgwood from the Luas, petrol can, dried grass, wooded area & a couple of brainiacs laughing their heads off running away.

"Called @DubFireBrigade, on the scene & extinguished in less than 10mins."

Dublin Fire Brigade responded on Twitter, warning the public of the risks such fires pose.

They said: "With the current dry weather, vegetation fires are at risk of spreading.

"In the run up to #Halloween these kind of fires are more frequent."
