Tayto Park animals have fun in the sun as temperatures soar to 26C across Ireland

The adorable animals in Tayto Park kept cool with some n-ice treats as temperatures soared across Irelamd today.

As the mercury rose to a whopping 26C in parts of the country, zookeepers dished out frozen fresh fruit and fruit skewers which are a favourite with the park's animals.

Fruit is great way for animals to absorb extra water and keep them hydrated during the .

Ricky the Ring-Tailed Coatimundi and Sulawesi Crested Macaque Indah were pictured enjoying some cold refreshments while the meerkat troop tucked into fruit skewers.

And the park's pigs enjoyed a cooling shower as they munched on some goodies.

Looking ahead to the next few days, Met Eireann revealed Wednesday and Thursday should remain warm, however, there is the possibility of thunderstorms hitting across both days.

A forecaster said: "Cloudy on Wednesday with a few showers and the risk of more persistent rain in the southwest and west for a time.

"However, there will be some bright or sunny spells, especially in the east. Highest temperatures of 20C to 24C generally but reaching 25C or 26C in east Leinster."

And Thursday will remain warm and humid but there will also be outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

The southwest and west may see some heavy bursts of rain but it will be brighter in the east with highs of 20C to 23C.
