Tayside bracing itself for weekend of snow and freezing temperatures

Tayside is bracing itself for a weekend of snow and freezing conditions.

The Met Office has warned locals to wrap up warm and prepare for wintry weather over the next 48 hours.

The news is especially important for anyone hoping to head out to Dundee’s Winterfest.

The warning comes as the region recovers from the after effects of the Storm Arwen battering.

Winds of 30mph have also been predicted - far less than the near 100mph gusts in some areas last weekend.

Forecasters say that tonight will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain – some of them heavy – with some snow on higher ground.

Saturday will be “rather cloudy in the morning with outbreaks of rain and hill snow”.

It will become “drier and somewhat brighter in the afternoon” with parts of Tayside hitting highs of 5°C

Sunday is predicted to be “dry, cold and sunny” with sleet and snow expected overnight and early on Monday.

Further wintry showers are expected on Monday with more rain and snow on Tuesday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Patchy rain and snow will affect some areas before more snow over the next few days. Only a few areas will be spared."
