Taynuilt Inn engulfed in raging inferno as Scots hotel's roof goes up in flames

Fire crews are battling a fierce blaze which left a Scots hotel engulfed in flames.

Emergency services were called to Argyll and Bute 's iconic Taynuilt Inn in at around 5am on Tuesday after the alarm was raised.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that they have three appliances in attendance alongside a specialist height vehicle.

Residents have reported a loss of water supply as fire crews continue to tackle the blaze at Taynuilt Inn (Exploring Scotland's History(YouTube))

Shocking images from the scene show bright flames leaping from the roof of the property as thick smoke billows into the sky.

It is understood that all guests and staff managed to escape uninjured.

The exact cause of the fire is not known at this time.

Local residents have reported a loss of water supply as crews continue to battle the fire while Taynuilt Primary School has closed as a result.

The A85 - which runs through the village - has also been closed off by police while the incident remains ongoing.

Traffic Scotland is warning motorists to find an alternative route.

They tweeted: “The A85 is CLOSED both ways at Taynuilt Hotel due to a building fire and will remain closed for some time.

“Please leave extra time for your journey.”

Oban Police added: “Due to an extensive fire the A85 at Taynuilt will be shut for some time. Please find an alternative route.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “We were alerted at 5.05am on Tuesday, September 21 to reports of a building on fire on the A85 near Taynuilt.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and one height vehicle to the area and firefighters are working to extinguish the fire.

“There are no reported casualties at this time and crews are currently still in attendance.”
