Taylor Wimpey latest developer for 7,000 new homes garden city scheme in Cardiff

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey is the latest developer behind the £2bn Plasdwr scheme in Cardiff that will eventually see 7,000 new homes built.

Taylor Wimpey has submitted plans to build 337 homes at the scheme’s Pendown neighbour. Plasdwr, which will cover a 900 acre site, is in the north west of the city near Fairwater and St Fagans.

They join Bellway and Lewis Homes at the scheme, alongside Flintshire headquartered Redrow will which create up 2,600 homes and has responsibility for leading the masterplanning of the entire garden city project.

A 20 year project, Plasdwr will also see four primary schools, a secondary school, retail, health, leisure and community facilities set across five distinct neighbourhoods.

Its development will create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Taylor Wimpey is expected to be on site for its 20-acre Gwel y Garth development later this year, which will provide a range of two to four-bedroom family homes.

Richard Price, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey South Wales, said: “We always strive to create places which will be enjoyed by generations of people. Plasdwr is an excellent site with huge potential, so we’re delighted to be coming on board.”

Robert Evans, associate director of land agents Cooke and Arkwright, said: “Welcoming a new developer on board to build at Plasdwr always represents an exciting step forward in the development of Cardiff’s garden city.

“Taylor Wimpey is an established developer with a reputation for building quality, sustainable homes. We’re looking forward to seeing them break ground at Plasdwr and to seeing this new, sustainable community in north west Cardiff continue to grow and flourish.”
