Taylor Swift has won best international female solo artist at the 2015 Brit awards. The Shake it Off singer triumphed over competition from St Vincent, Sia, Lana Del Rey and Beyoncé.

Her first Brit award, the singer dedicated her award to a number of British friends: “I love you Ed Sheeran - wherever you are. I also want to thank Cara and Ellie and Sam. I am lucky to have you in my life.”

It caps a triumphant year for Swift, whose 2014 album 1989 helped her complete the transformation from Nashville country singer to arguably the biggest pop star on the planet. 1989 was put together with the help of big-hitting songwriting names such as Max Martin, and it topped the charts in the UK and the US, as well as numerous other countries.

Swift, who performed at this year’s Brits, also received rave reviews last year for her series of shows at London’s O2 Arena, proving herself to be a top live draw as well as a bankable recording artist.
