Taylor Swift shares first selfie from the Cats film set as she confirms musical role

Confirmed: Taylor Swift announced her Cats character in an Instagram post (Picture: Instagram: Taylor Swift)

Taylor Swift has confirmed her role in the forthcoming film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical Cats.

The pop superstar revealed that she is set to take the part of Bombalurina in the big screen version of the Broadway hit, sharing a behind-the-scenes snap on her Instagram account in which her character’s name could clearly be seen on her trailer door.

Swift, who wore a fur-trimmed denim jacket in the shot, captioned her post “Meow.”

In an additional Instagram Stories post, Swift appeared to embrace the wintery weather, with her hair covered in snowflakes as she told viewers: “I’m on set for Cats and it is fully snowing!”

Bombalurina is a nocturnal Jellicle cat whose big moment comes during the song Macavity the Mystery Cat.

Lloyd Webber dropped a major hint as to Swift’s involvement in the Cats movie back in October, when he told Vulture that the singer was “going to play one or other of the Macavity girls,” suggesting that she would either take the role of Bombalurina or Demeter.

“Basically, Tom Hooper thought it was a really good idea, and of course, she loves cats,” he said, before adding that he was “looking forward to meeting [Swift] and seeing her [at work].”

Swift took on presenting duties at the Golden Globes earlier this month with her Cats co-star Idris Elba, who will play the villainous cat criminal Macavity.

They will be joined by Jennifer Hudson, rumoured to be taking the role of Grizabella, Sir Ian McKellen and James Corden.
