Taylor Swift says women are 'more than just baby incubators'

Taylor Swift has spoken out about the societal expectation frequently placed on women to have children as soon as possible, stating: “We’re more than incubators.”

Earlier this year, the singer delivered a brilliant response after being asked by an interviewer whether she plans on having children given the approach of her 30th birthday on 13 December.

In the latest issue of Peoplemagazine, in which Swift has been featured as one of four “People of the Year”, Swift explained that women should feel confident in expressing their opposition to such questions.

“The more women are able to voice their discomfort in social situations, the more it becomes the social norm that people who ask the questions at parties like, ‘When are you going to start a family?’ to someone as soon as they turn 25 are a little bit rude,” the musician said.

Swift added that she believes it may “take a bit” of time for everyone to “catch up” with this particular attitude.

“It’s good that we’re allowed to say, ‘Hey, just so you know, we’re more than incubators,” she said.

“You don’t have to ask that of someone just because they’re in their mid-20s and they’re female.”

Swift continued, saying that she admires those who publicly promote the positive message that ageing is not something to be afraid or ashamed of.

“I really love that there are advocates out there in the world being very vocal about the fact that ageing is not a slow march to irrelevancy, death and decay,” the pop star affirmed.

The other three individuals featured as People magazine’s “People of the Year” in its new issue are Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez and Michelle Obama.

Aniston celebrated her magazine cover on Instagram, sharing a photograph of herself holding the issue and writing: “Thank you @people for putting me in such great company.”

This week, Swift announced the release of her festive track “Christmas Tree Farm”.
