Taylor Swift’s album Folklore has become the first record of 2020 to sell more than one million copies in the US.
The singer-songwriter’s acclaimed eighth album was released in July as a surprise for fans.
According to Billboard, Folklore sold 57,000 copies in the US last week, returning it to the No 1 spot in the US charts.
Its total sales now amount to 1.038 million, making it the only album to have passed the million mark in the US in the last year.
Lover, Swift’s previous album, was the only album to have sold a million US copies in the entirety of 2019.
All eight of Swift’s studio albums have now reached that milestone, as well as the festive record The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection.
Folklore was seen by many as a tonal departure for Swift, away from the slick pop of 1989 and Lover and towards something more folk-infused.
Swift recently started selling signed copies of Folklore on her online store for $25 (£19) each, which prompted the resurgence in sales.
“Along with the signed CD, some lucky purchasers of these items may even receive complimentary cat hair stuck inside the pages,” joked the singer on Twitter.
“Or the aromatic scent of white wine I occasionally spill while signing.”
