Taylor Swift continues to dominate the music scene with her ongoing The Eras Tour, Grammy nominations, and the success of her boyfriend, who is headed to the Super Bowl. However, it doesn't end there. Swift's older single, 'Cruel Summer,' is making history on the Billboard charts, securing its position at the top once again on the Adult Pop Airplay chart.
'Cruel Summer' has now spent an impressive 21 weeks reigning supreme on the radio ranking of the top-performing singles in the adult pop genre. Surpassing The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights' with its 20-week run, Swift's hit now holds the record as the third-longest-running No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart.
While Swift still has a way to go before reaching the all-time record, which currently belongs to Santana and Rob Thomas' iconic song 'Smooth,' she has undoubtedly established an impressive presence on the chart. 'Smooth' held the top spot for an astonishing 25 weeks almost 25 years ago, setting a standard that has proved challenging to beat.
Following closely behind 'Smooth,' The Calling's 'Wherever You Will Go' secured 23 weeks at No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart between 2001 and 2002, making it the second-longest-running leader in the history of the ranking.
Based on the continued support the single is receiving from adult pop stations across the country, it seems highly unlikely that 'Cruel Summer' will descend from its perch anytime soon. The song has even reclaimed the runner-up position on the Hot 100 chart this week, thanks, in part, to its ongoing popularity at pop radio.
As Taylor Swift's chart-topping reign with 'Cruel Summer' shows no signs of slowing down, fans can look forward to more historic achievements and memorable music from this talented superstar.
