Taylor Swift has brushed off a swipe from her ex Matt Healy’s mother, Denise Welch, and is said to be “very happy with life right now”, according to an insider.
The billionaire pop star became a talking point during Welch’s appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live on Thursday night.
Host Andy Cohen asked the 67-year-old Loose Women panellist for her thoughts on Swift’s latest album, The Tortured Poets Department.
Welch appeared to make a wry remark about Swift’s well-known tendency to write songs about her past relationships.
She said: "Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad I lost."
As audience members audibly gasped, Welch added: "Not that I have anything against [Taylor] at all!
"It was just – it was tricky... Listen, you're not allowed to say anything,” before adding: "and then she [Taylor] writes a whole album about it."
Swift, 35, and Healy, 36, dated for several months in 2023 after she split from her long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn in April of that year.
The romance didn't last long, and Swift has since got together with NFL star Travis Kelce while Healy is engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel.
Last year saw the enormous success of Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour and she recently bought back the master recordings of her first six albums.
An insider told The Daily Mail that Swift plans to take the high road despite the “obnoxious” comments.
The source said: "It's a bit obnoxious in Taylor's eyes, but she has to take the high road.
"If there was anything that would be in a future song of Taylor's – if she were ever to respond – she would respond that way. But as of right now, she might just let it slide. She is not going to let Denise ruin her day.
"Taylor respected Denise and will continue to do so, as this will go away very quickly.
"But if Denise continues to talk about it and bash Taylor, then Taylor would say something. The ball is still in Denise's court to see if she wants to continue the narrative she brought upon herself."
Swift and Healy had met years before they started dating, when Swift attended a concert of Healy's band The 1975 in Los Angeles in 2014, alongside her friends Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding.
In 2022, rumours swelled up that Healy would feature on Swift's album Midnights.
While the pair did collaborate on some recording in the studio, the material was never released. Their only other professional partnership was in January 2023, when Swift made a cameo appearance at a 1975 concert.
After Swift's split from Alwyn in April 2023, her romance with Healy quickly became a talking point among fans - especially after he made barbed comments about rapper Ice Spice.
Swift's fans reacted angrily to Healy's jokes and voiced their opinions that she should split with the performer. By early June, the pair had parted ways.
