Taylor Swift donates £36,000 to mum-of-five whose husband died of Covid

Taylor Swift and her mother Andrea have generously donated £36,000 to a mum-of-five who lost her husband to Covid-19 a week before Christmas.

The singer, 31, and Andrea, 63, gifted the cash to a GoFundMe page for Vickie Quarles.

The page was originally set up to raise $50,000 to help the mother and her kids.

After the Swift duo's donation the page had smashed the target and has so far raised over $60,000.

Vickie's husband Theodis Ray Quarles, 48, of Memphis Tennessee passed away from the virus in December according to the funding page set up by family friend DeQuanda Smith.

The page recalled the moments Theodis had to be taken to hospital because of breathing difficulties.

DeQuanda's posted: "Vicki wasn't allowed to accompany her husband due to quarantine restrictions. Little did she know that this would be her final engagement with her [husband and] best friend.

"She later received a call from the hospital that Theodis had [succumbed] to this awful virus."

DeQuanda added that the man's death will "forever leave a void on the Quarles team".

He left behind children Alyssa, Anaya, Asia, Allie and Aryah and DeQuanda said the youngsters will "miss him at breakfast, at their class plays, proms, recitals, graduations, college entries ... and ultimately their weddings.

"I am confident that their father, Theodis Ray Quarles, will be smiling from heaven when his little teacher, doctor, CEO, nurse or entrepreneur makes her mark in the world.

It's not the first time the Grammy Award winner has shown generosity during the pandemic.

The pop superstar had previously donated 3,000 dollars (£2,200) each several fans who had voiced their financial problems on social media.

In August, the Shake It Off singer was also thanked by an aspiring mathematician living in London after she made her “dreams come true” following a £23,000 donation towards her university education.

And in December she donated 13,000 dollars (£9,500) each to two mothers who were experiencing difficulties because of the pandemic.
