Taylor Swift confirms whether London Boy 'babes' lyric was inspired by Gemma Collins

Taylor Swift's Lover has only been out for a week and it's already become the biggest-selling album of 2019.

It's also had the biggest first week of sales for an album, well, since Taylor Swift's last album Reputation came out in 2017.

Swift has been celebrating the release of the record - the first one she owns the copyright of - by doing various interviews and performances.

Her most recent was on British radio on September 2, as part of BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge month.

The 29-year-old kicked off Live Lounge Month with an interview and a performance of six songs - including an acoustic version of new track

The song, which features a cameo from Idris Elba, caused a stir following the album's release, as it gives fans a rare glimpse into the singer's private relationship with actor Joe Alwyn.

It also pleased Brits with its references to London locations like Camden Market and use of English slang words like "uni" and "I fancy you".

Some listeners were also convinced that the lyrics featured a shout out to British reality star Gemma Collins - however Swift has just revealed this isn't the case.

The GC is known for saying the word "babes", and this word made it onto the track London Boy.

In the song, Swift puts on an accent as she sings: "Babes, don't threaten me with a good time".

After several people suggested a link between the two, Radio 1 host Clara Amfo decided to find out for herself what the real deal was, so she asked the pop sensation if she'd been taking inspiration from the former TOWIE star.

Swift confessed that she hadn't and that the line in the song was actually a nod to her British friends - which could include the likes of Cara Delevingne, Lena Dunham and Ellie Goulding.

She said: "No, it's just something that all my British friends say all the time. And they say it exactly like that, so forgive the impression."

Guess we'll have to start a petition to get The GC a mention on album number eight, eh?
