Taylor Swift claims she's being blocked from performing medley at AMAs - where she'll be named artist of the decade

Taylor Swift has said she may be blocked from performing a medley of her songs at the American Music Awards.

The pop sensation accused the men who own her old music of exercising “tyrannical control” over her career as she made the claim.

Swift is set to be named artist of the decade at the AMAs, but she said the head of her former record label and a prominent music industry figure may stop her from performing some of her tracks.

In an extraordinary statement on Thursday night, Swift alleged Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun were blocking her from performing a medley of her songs at the ceremony.

She said they were "exercising tyrannical control" over her career.

Swift said she is legally allowed to re-record her old songs and is "looking forward" to it, adding: "I feel very strongly that sharing what is happening to me could change the awareness level for other artists and potentially help them avoid a similar fate.

"The message being sent to me is very clear. Basically, be a good little girl and shut up. Or you'll be punished. This is WRONG. Neither of these men had a hand in the writing of those songs. They did nothing to create the relationship I have with my fans."

The star then asked her fans for "help", by letting Braun and Borchetta "know how you feel about this".

Big Machine Label Group responded to Swift's claim on Friday afternoon, stating she had based her statement "on false information."

"At no point did we say Taylor could not perform on the AMAs or block her Netflix special," they said. "In fact, we do not have the right to keep her from performing live anywhere."

The statement does not directly address Swift's claim Borchetta and Braun would not allow her to perform tracks they technically own.

Their statement continues: "Since Taylor’s decision to leave Big Machine last fall, we have continued to honor all of her requests to license her catalog to third parties as she promotes her current re

"When that happens, you will see there is nothing but respect, kindness and support waiting for you on the other side."

Borchetta founded Big Machine Label Group, which signed Swift as a teenager. Earlier this year it emerged Braun, who manages high-profile pop stars including Justin Bieber, had acquired Swift's back catalogue.

When Braun acquired her back catalogue, Swift said she was "sad" and "grossed out" at the move.
