Taylor Swift announces her first stadium tour in five years after making music history

Pop sensation Taylor Swift has announced her first US stadium tour in five years, following one of the biggest album launches of her career.

The 32-year-old singer recently released her 10th studio album, Midnights, with its soaring popularity making her the first artist in history to claim every spot in the top 10 of the US singles chart.

Midnights also became Spotify's most streamed album in a single day.

Announcing the tour news on Twitter, Taylor shared a tour poster with the caption: "I’m enchanted to announce my next tour: Taylor Swift The Eras Tour, a journey through the musical eras of my career (past & present!).

"The first leg of the tour will be in stadiums across the US, with international dates to be announced as soon as we can!"

She also took to Instagram to share the news and wrote: "I can’t WAIT to see your gorgeous faces out there. It’s been a long time coming."

Taylor will be joined by a number of popular artists, including Paramore, Haim, Phoebe Bridgers and Gracie Abrams. Also joining her will be beabadoobee, girl in red, Muna, Gayle and Owenn.

The singer-songwriter will kick off the tour on March 18 in Glendale, Arizona at State Farm Stadium.

The 27-date run includes other stadium stops in Las Vegas, Arlington, Texas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles, where the U.S. leg wraps on August 5 2023.

Taylor's last stadium tour was back in 2018 to promote her album Reputation.

She has since released new albums Lover, Folklore and Evermore, as well as re-recording her Red and Fearless albums.

The Shake it Off hitmaker has described her new album as the story of "13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life" and "a journey through terrors and sweet dreams".

Midnights sees Taylor shun the indie song writing of her last two albums in favour of electronica and synth-pop beats.

She has once again written the majority of the album with Jack Antonoff, lead singer of rock band Bleachers.

Midnights claimed the biggest first week of album sales since Adele’s 30 was released last November and took the title of the most streamed album of the year in its opening week with 72.5 million streams across the seven days.
