Taylor Hawkins' touching gesture to young drummer days before his death

Taylor Hawkins made sweet gesture to 9-year-old drumming sensation Emma Sofía just days before his sudden death.

The late rock star was found dead in a hotel room in the north of Bogota, Colombia with his tragic death being announced by his band's social media accounts on Saturday morning.

Just days before his untimely death, the Foo Fighters drummer had been staying in a hotel in Retiro, Buenos Aires on Tuesday night.

Aware that her idol was staying in the hotel, Emma set up her drums outside of the hotel in hopes of meeting the star.

The talented young drummer was surrounded by many fans as she showed off her skills on the drums, word of her ability managed to get to Taylor.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Taylor left the Sheraton Asunción hotel and went in search of the child prodigy after hearing about her drumming outside of the hotel.

Hoards of fans had gathered around to hear the young girl play, and Taylor managed to find his way to her.

Emma's father Julius proudly explained that Emma had decided to set up her drums and play for the Foo Fighters while surrounded by other fans.

Taking to Twitter, he shared a picture of his daughter with the world famous drummer in a now viral tweet.

Alongside the picture, he wrote: "My daughter, since she found out that the Foo Fighters were coming, started a campaign to meet them.

"Today we took her drums to play in front of the Sheraton and look who came out of it at her call. Dreams come true."

The viral moment took place just days before the drumming legend was found dead at the age of 50 in his hotel room in Colombia where the Foo Fighters were due to play at a festival.

A statement on the band's official Twitter page read: "The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.

"His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever.

"Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time."

It has been reported that Taylor's death could be drug related, but it is unconfirmed at present.

It has also been reported that prior to his death, Taylor complained to hotel staff about having chest pains.

The band have confirmed that they will not be performing at Festival Estéreo Picnic in the capital following the tragedy.

Tributes have flooded in for Taylor from across the music world today, with it being clear that he will be sorely missed by many.
