Taylor Bertolet is Jets Wire’s Preseason Week 3 Player of the Game

The Jets got an encouraging performance from Taylor Bertolet despite the team’s 28-13 loss to the Saints on Saturday night.

Bertolet connected on both his field goal attempts which were 48 and 56 yards away, respectively. For his performance, Bertolet is Jets Wire’s player of the game for Week 3 of the preseason.

The Jets have had kicking issues during all of training camp. It started with Chandler Catanzaro, as he was absolutely dreadful missing kick after kick no matter the distance. Then Catanzaro surprisingly retired and the team decided to bring back Bertolet after he failed to make the roster last season.

Bertolet wasn’t much of an improvement right away, as his training camp got off to an up and down start. Fast forward to Week 2 of the preseason against the Saints and Bertolet wasn’t much better. He missed two extra points in that game.

But he didn’t let that get to him on Saturday night as it looked like he was kicking more confidently. The Jets needed to see something good from him or else they would’ve brought in another kicker to compete with him.

Bertolet’s performance could be a one-time thing, but at least for one night, the Jets got some positives out of this position. Unless he’s terrible next week against the Eagles, Bertolet looks like he’ll be the starting kicker for the 2019 season.
