Taxis and other cars are targeted in deliberate fire in Blackpill, Swansea

Police are asking for the public's help after a deliberate fire at a taxi park in Swansea.

It was put out before Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service arrived.

A fire service spokesman said a number of vehicles were affected, but it's not clear how much damage was caused.

It has been claimed that the same taxi park on Mill Lane, Blackpill, was targeted two nights later.

A fire service spokesman confirmed it had been called out at 11.05pm on Friday, March 20, to attend "a deliberate fire on Mill Lane".

He said: "The fire involved a number of vehicles, that were used as taxis, and was extinguished prior to the arrival of the fire service."

Firefighters made the scene safe and left the incident along with South Wales Police officers at 11:35pm.

Police are investigating, and would like anyone with information to get in touch.

A police spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a fire at a taxi car park in Mill Lane, Blackpill at about 11.05pm on March 20.

"The fire was put out before police or the fire and rescue service attended."

Ward councillor, Linda Tyler-Lloyd, said she had been told that petrol had been put in the vicinity of the vehicles, and that there had been a second incident two nights later, on the Sunday.

She condemned whoever was responsible, particular as the emergency services had to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.

"This sort of thing, at any time, is terrible," she said. "But at a time like this we are facing a crisis, it's just not on.

"If anyone does know anything, then come forward."

If you can help, phone police on 101 quoting occurrence number 2000098878.
