Cabbie returns forgotten bag and money to Kuwaiti tourist

A taxi driver has returned the equivalent of 123,650 baht in US and Kuwaiti currencies, passports and other valuables to a Kuwaiti passenger who left his bag in the cab outside a Bangkok hotel.

Pornthip Butsit, 50, handed the bag containing US$2,000 and 520 dinars to Meshari HM AL Fadhli, 52, at FM91 traffic radio station about 6.30pm on Thursday.

Radio station manager Jaithon Sriwangpon witnessed the return of the lost bag.

Mr Porntip said the foreigner hailed his taxi at Soi Soon Vijai 4 off New Phetchaburi Road and he took him to a nearby hotel around 2.30pm on Thursday.  

At the hotel, Mr Pornthip got out of the cab and asked hotel staff for help him communicate with the foreigner and find out where he wanted to go. The passenger was talking to someone on his phone outside the cab at the time. Five minutes later, a hotel staffer told him his passenger did not want to go any further. He then left drove off.

A while later while cruising for a fare he noticed a green bag left inside his cab. He looked inside and found foreign currency banknotes, three passports, a watch and a mobile phone.

After hearing on FM91 traffic radio that a foreign passenger had left a  green bag containing foreign currency and other valuables inside a taxi, Mr Ponrthip immediately went to the radio station.

The Kuwaiti tourist thanked the driver for his honesty. He gave him a cash reward. The tourist had reportedly accompanied his sick elder brother to Bangkok for medical treatment. He was staying at the hotel before he lost his bag.
