Taxi passenger arrested at Dublin Airport checkpoint after being caught with €20,000 of vacuum packed cannabis herb

A taxi passenger was nabbed carrying €20,000 of cannabis herb by gardai at a COVID-19 checkpoint near Dublin Airport.

The passenger was caught when the taxi they were in was stopped at the checkpoint at the Shanganhill townlands at Dublin Airport Logistics Park.

Gardai questioned their reason for travel, and the passenger said they were shopping and returning home.

But when gardai checked his shopping bags, they found the cannabis herb vacuum packed into two packs.

Sharing images of the drugs on social media, gardai said: "Gardaí stopped a taxi at Shanganhill Dublin Airport yesterday while conducting a Covid-19 checkpoint. Gardaí asked the passenger what his reason for travel was, and he stated he had been shopping and was returning home.

"Gardaí then searched the passenger’s shopping bags and found two vacuumed packs of cannabis herb with an approximate street value of €20,000.

"The passenger was arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act."
