Taxi drivers gather for protest in Dublin against Free Now app raising commission fees from 12% to 15%

Taxi drivers gathered outside the offices of Free Now, the taxi-hailing app firm, to protest against the hiking of commission fees today.

The commission fee is a cut that Free Now takes from fares that taxi drivers pick up using the app.

The unofficial protest took place on Mount Street in Dublin at 3pm this afternoon.

One driver told the Irish Mirror that "one of the reasons for the protest is that they have increase their commission for drivers from 12% to 15%".

Drivers held signs saying 'No to 15%, enough is enough Free Now' and 'We work with you, not for you, Free Now'.

One onlooker described the protest scene as "carnage".

Free Now faced the wrath of drivers in London in August 2019, when it made the hike there.

In an email sent out to drivers at the time, the firm said it was a "necessary change" which will "help the taxi trade to have a sustainable and bright future".
