Taxi driver taken to hospital following assault and robbery in Tallaght

A taxi driver was rushed to hospital following a sickening assault in Tallaght last night.

The cabbie was allegedly attacked by three men after he picked them up in Saggart and brought them to Cloonmore Green in Jobstown at around 10:30pm yesterday evening.

It is understood the thugs stole two phones and a sum of cash from the driver and also damaged his car.

The taxi driver was taken to Tallaght Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A garda spokesman told Dublin Live they are investigating the incident.

He said: "Gardaí are investigating a suspected robbery from a male taxi driver in his early 30s that occurred at Cloonmore Green, Tallaght at approximately 10.30pm on 2nd July 2019.

"The taxi driver was allegedly struck by three male passengers who took a sum of cash and other items.

"There was also damage to the taxi driver's vehicle during the incident.

"The taxi driver was taken to Tallaght Hospital with non-life threatening injuries."

No arrests have been made and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
