Taxi driver stripped of licence following complaints of aggressive and inappropriate behaviour

A taxi driver from Weston-super-Mare has been stripped of his licence - after complaints about aggressive and inappropriate behaviour.

North Somerset Council had received several complaints about the behaviour of cab driver Erkan Kutuk of Saxby Close, Worle.

North Somerset Council’s licensing committee made the decision to revoke his licence and North Somerset magistrates upheld the decision at an appeal hearing last month.

The council was also awarded costs of £900.

Mr Kutuk was referred to the council’s licensing committee in January 2019.

After hearing evidence, councillors decided that he was not “fit and proper” to hold a licence and revoked it.

Mr Kutuk appealed the decision, resulting in a magistrates court hearing.

The magistrates agreed with the licensing committee decision after reviewing the evidence and decided Mr Kutuk was not suitable to hold a licence.

They dismissed his appeal.

North Somerset Council principal licensing officer Sioux Isherwood said: "We will not tolerate any inappropriate or aggressive behaviour from licensed drivers.

"Drivers are licensed by the council as individuals and work on a self-employed basis for a licensed operator.
