Taxi driver's licence shredded after 'intimidating and dangerous' driving before abuse hurled at cyclist

A taxi driver has had his licence revoked after driving dangerously before hurling abuse at a cyclist in Bristol city centre.

The incident was captured on the cyclist's helmet-mounted camera at about 8am on Saturday, March 9.

After the cyclist remonstrates with another overtaking motorist in Victoria Street, the driver of the silver Seat taxi witnesses the exchange before dangerously cutting in front of the bike and braking hard at the traffic lights on Bristol Bridge.

The video then cuts to two minutes later where the cyclist is once again ahead of the taxi on Anchor Road in the city centre.

The taxi can be seen in the rear view camera accelerating in the lane that travels behind the Harbourside towards Hotwells, while the cyclist is in the right-hand lane heading towards College Green and Park Street.

The taxi driver then aggressively swerves into the cyclist's lane - cutting him off again - and brakes hard while waving his arm out of the window.

He continues for a short distance before coming to a halt while blocking a pedestrian crossing.

"What you doing? It's a 20mph limit," the cyclist can be heard to say.

While some of what he says us inaudible, the driver leans out of his car window and shouts: "Shut up. You're dangerous mate, you're dangerous. F*** you.

"He's got kids in the car. What the f*** is wrong with you?"

The cyclist responds: "He shouldn't be doing more than 20mph.

"That was really dangerous what you did there, you're supposed to be a professional driver."

The traffic lights ahead of them turn green and the taxi and cyclist pull away before the clip ends.

The video was shared on Twitter by the Bristol Cycling Campaign group, who said the incident had been reported to Avon and Somerset Police and Bristol City Council.

On March 21, the council revealed the driver had had his taxi licence revoked following an investigation.

In a statement, the local authority said: "Following a report from the Neighbourhood Enforcement Team a private hire taxi driver has had his licence revoked for driving his taxi in an intimidating and dangerous manner, putting the safety of a cyclist and other members of the public at risk.

"The cyclist had captured the incident, which was considered as very serious and is also being investigated by the police, on his helmet camera."
