Taxi driver's ear sliced open after asking passenger to pay £20 fare up front

A taxi driver was stabbed and had his ear sliced open after asking a knife thug passenger to pay his £20 fare up front.

Sajid Javed feared he'd die in the brutal, unprovoked assault just yards from his own home in Glasgow.

The dad-of-three is too traumatised to return to work after the attack.

He was stabbed by Gordon McPherson, 21, and repeatedly punched by Dylan Sullivan, 20.

The thugs have now pleaded guilty to the crime, which has left Sajid scarred for life.

The victim’s wife, Shazia, 36, told how the violent assault has changed their family forever and left her husband, also 36, with long-lasting physical injuries and emotional issues.

The family are now considering moving out of Scotland altogether, the Daily Record reports .

Shazia said: “I hope they realise how much damage they have caused to the family and it will be a lesson to them that nobody should ever act like this.

"Our children are young and will not forget this for the rest of their lives. Everything has changed.”

Sajid was attacked after requesting a £20 fare up front.

Prosecutor Pat Callendar told Glasgow Sheriff Court: “They began to assault him. McPherson struck Mr Javed on the head and body with a knife while Sullivan repeatedly punched him on the head.

“Mr Javed bled during the assault.”

The severely injured Sajid managed to get back in his taxi and drive around the corner to his home, where he collapsed.

He needed stitches to wounds on his upper cheek, head and back.

Sajid said at the time: “There was so much blood all over my shirt and trousers. I was really scared but God gave me a new life.”

McPherson and Sullivan have admitted the attack and will be sentenced next week. Both were remanded in custody.

Shazia said: “We are pleased they have admitted what they’ve done and relieved they are in custody and that we don’t have to go through a trial.

“Sajid can’t work because he has lost hearing in his left ear and needs a hearing aid because his left side of his head was cut into.

“His left eye is damaged and he is always dizzy so we can’t leave him alone. I have to go everywhere with him. The kids still aren’t sleeping and are afraid of even a little noise.

“We talk about whether we should leave and go to another country but we were a happy family here before this happened.

"The children were settled at school and we were working but now we feel like we’re starting from zero again.”
