Taxi! board game maker adds Rangers, Chelsea and The Open golf to range after lockdown sales surge

Edinburgh-based Taxi Game Ltd has signed up to produce Rangers, Chelsea and The Open Golf versions of its popular Taxi! trivia quiz game.

The company founded by former taxi driver Derek Carroll has just enjoyed its best quarter for sales after many families sought more traditional forms of entertainment during lockdown.

Sales of Taxi! topped the UK-wide 240% increase in demand for board games.

Director Gordon Drysdale said: “We are been blown away with the success of Taxi! Game over the last few months and really looking forward to launching our five new editions in early October.

"We are particularly delighted to be working with Rangers FC to launch their edition of the game. There has been great demand for this issue for a number of years and now at last it will be available."

Carroll dreamed up the game while waiting for fares at an Edinburgh taxi rank and more than 30,000 have been sold since it was launched in 2015. He is a director along with Women's Enterprise Scotland chair Lynne Cadenhead.

The company makes 13 editions including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Celtic, Aberdeen FC, Hibernian, Hearts, Scotland Football and Scotland Rugby. Players pick up tips for answering questions correctly as they travel round the board.

Along with the Rangers, Chelsea, and The Open Golf versions it will launch city editions for Liverpool and Manchester in October.

Drysdale added: "During lock-down many people have gone back to basics, spending more time with their family and friends, and playing board games together has been a popular and fun past-time. The feedback we've received from people from across the globe who have bought and played the game has been overwhelming."
