Various taxes and charges will go up in the State from Friday, April 1. The land tax rates and fair value of land will go up while green tax will be levied on vehicles. Water charges also will go up by 5%.
The fair value of land will go up by 10% as a one-time increase across all segments. This is expected to mop up ₹200 crore in revenue.
The new basic land tax rates as follows: Grama panchayats: Up to 8.1 Are (₹5 per Are), above 8.1 Are (₹8). Municipalities: up to 2.43 Are (₹10), above 2.43 Are (₹15). Corporations: up to 1.62 Are (₹20), above 1.62 Are (₹30).
The green tax imposed on vehicles older than 15 years will go up by 50%. Green tax will also be levied on various categories of diesel-powered vehicles except motorcycles.
Water charges also will go up by 5% from April 1. The annual hike is meant to meet certain conditions set by the Central government for making the State eligible for the additional borrowing of 2% of the Gross State Domestic Product.
